Jada Kingdom and Shaneil Muir have joined forces on “Tears,” a moody, unapologetic dancehall ballad that turns heartbreak into a full-on “wicked gyal” moment.
Produced by Yo Christon, the track blends modern dancehall with rock elements, “giving both women space to unpack love gone wrong while ultimately choosing themselves,” entertainment publicist, Paul Thom, of The Thom Brand, told Caribbean Life on Monday, Sept. 21.
“The title may be ‘Tears,’ but the record is far from a traditional heartbreak ballad,” said Thom, stating that Jada opens by reflecting on red flags, bad decisions, and putting too much faith in the wrong person before landing on a simple realization.
“She would rather be alone than keep giving her heart to someone who does not deserve it,” he added. “Shaneil brings her own unapologetic perspective, matching Jada’s energy as the two turn heartbreak into a declaration of independence, confidence, and self-worth.”
Sonically, Thom said “Tears” sits between a ballad and a dancehall record, with guitar-driven production giving the track a rock edge.
He said Jada has long toyed with rock influences throughout her music, but 2025’s “G.A.D.” brought that side of her artistry into sharper focus, “pairing searing guitar riffs with Caribbean rhythms to create one of her most recognizable records.”
Thom said “Tears” takes that influence “somewhere more vulnerable, allowing the guitars to carry the emotional weight while the dancehall rhythm keeps the record grounded in Jamaica.”
He said there is also a full-circle connection behind the boards.
Thom said Yo Christon, who produced “Tears,” also produced “G.A.D.” and received recognition for his work on the Dancehall Song of the Year-nominated record at this year’s Caribbean Music Awards.
Thom said “Tears” arrives as Jada continues one of the strongest runs of her career.
In 2026, he said she has released two projects, “Just A Girl In A Money Man’s World” and “New Religion,” the latter featuring one collaboration with Foggieraw, while maintaining a steady stream of features and collaborations.
Thom said Jada recently followed with the “Mi Seh” remix with Govana, the “Soul For Sale” remix featuring Kraff, “Move” with Baby Cham and “Dweet and Done” on Notnice’s Walk Out Riddim.
“The momentum is translating directly to listeners,” he said. “’Tears’ is currently Jada’s top-performing song across platforms, while the official music video has surpassed 1 million views on YouTube.”
From “G.A.D.” to “Tears,” Thom said Jada she is “building a catalog that feels increasingly genre-less, with each release adding another piece to a legacy that is still taking shape.”
