Acclaimed reggae vocalist Christopher Ellis has returned with a powerful new single, “My Sound,” an energetic celebration of Jamaica’s iconic sound system culture, sound clashes, and the traditional DJ styles that have fueled reggae music’s global influence for generations.
Produced by Grammy Award-winning artist and producer Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley and released through Ghetto Youths International, “My Sound” finds Ellis in peak form, delivering his signature blend of classic reggae authenticity and contemporary appeal, according to Jamaican-born, Brooklyn-based entertainment publicist Ronnie Tomlinson.
“Built for the dancehall and driven by a heavy, up-tempo reggae rhythm, the track pays tribute to the selectors, sound systems, and loyal audiences that remain at the heart of Jamaican music culture,” Tomlinson, CEO of New York’s Destine Media, Inc., told Caribbean Life on Friday, June 26.
She said the son of legendary Rocksteady pioneer Alton Ellis continues to honor his musical heritage while forging a distinct path of his own.
“On ‘My Sound,’ he channels the spirit of Jamaica’s dancehall spaces and sound system yards, capturing the excitement, pride, and community that have long defined the culture,” Tomlinson said.
She said the release arrives as Ellis continues to build international momentum following standout performances at SXSW London and a sold-out headline show at London’s iconic Jazz Café earlier this year, “further cementing his reputation as one of reggae’s most compelling contemporary voices.”
Tomlinson said “My Sound” continues the creative momentum established through Ellis’ recent releases, including “Still Go A Dance,” “Rub A Dub,” and “Stick Together” — “all of which have reinforced his commitment to preserving and modernizing reggae’s foundational sounds.”
Rooted firmly in Jamaica’s rich sound system tradition, Tomlinson said the single serves as “both a tribute and a reminder of the culture’s enduring influence.
“From Kingston Street corners to international stages, sound systems have played a critical role in spreading reggae music worldwide, creating spaces where music, community, and creativity intersect,” she said.
With Damian Marley’s contemporary production approach layered over a classic reggae foundation, Tomlinson said ‘My Sound’ balances nostalgia with modern energy.
“The result is a record that speaks directly to reggae lovers, sound system enthusiasts, selectors, and dancehall audiences across the globe,” she said.
“As Christopher Ellis continues to establish himself as one of reggae’s most compelling contemporary voices, ‘My Sound’ further demonstrates his ability to bridge generations — carrying forward the timeless legacy of Alton Ellis while creating music that resonates with today’s listeners,” Tonlinson added.
“My Sound” is available now on all major digital streaming platforms.
